NFL Fines Michael Vick $50,000 for Using Breath Asure
(November 8, 2002 - nonewswire.com) The NFL has fined Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick $50,000 for using Breath Asure instead of the league approved Tic Tacs.

"We obtained video footage from someone inside the Atlanta Falcons locker room that shows Vick taking a couple of Breath Asure pills," says a league official wishing to remain anonymous. "Under NFL rules, players who want to freshen their breath before, during, or after a game must use Tic Tacs. This is a clear violation of our rules that will not be tolerated."

The NFL official did confirm that the video of the bottle Vick took the pills from was not readable, so they sent the video to an FBI Analysis Center for enhancement. The enhanced video apparently shows that Vick indeed did use Breath Asure instead of Tic Tacs.

NoNewswire.com has learned that the analysis of the video cost $25,000, which the NFL will pay for out of Vick's fine.

"Vick is walking a thin line," says the anonymous official. "If we catch him taking Breath Asure again we may have to suspend him. If he tries to change the label on his Breath Asure bottle to read 'Tic Tacs' the penalty could be permanent suspension from the NFL."

While Vick had no comment on the fine, his teammates claim that he has hired an "NFL Rules Consultant" to accompany him from sunrise to midnight on game days to help him avoid further costly fines.

Reason for Satire:
In November 2002, the NFL fined Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick $5,000 because he was wearing red socks that showed above the white oversocks he was wearing. The action prompted the following quote from Falcons cornerback Ray Buchanan, refering to fine notices arriving on Wednesdays after a Sunday game:

"Every Wednesday around noon, we peek around the corner, looking for FedEx. We went from public school to private school ... forget private, we're in a boarding school."

The NFL later rescinded the fine, but the PR damage had already been done.
